Meeting Date: April 27

SAE Student Chapter Presentation - 2011

Formula SAE and Baja SAE Design Vehicles

Presented by: Curt Leaf, Twin Cities Section April Activities Chairman, and Dan Peterson, Co-Chair

University of Minnesota Formula One Vehicle 2011

The SAE Collegiate Design Series is entering its 33rd year.  It’s a simulated real-world product development contest for engineering students to design, build and test a recreational vehicle.  Teams of engineering students, from various schools throughout the world, compete as their design is judged on performance, cost, design presentation, marketing, etc. The success of the project is based on team work, which will be a vital skill as the engineering students enter the real world of engineering.

Be sure to make your reservations for this event to hear our various chapters as they present design / development of their 2010 - 2011 vehicles and their most recent competition efforts. Schools expected for the April meeting will be:

  • Formula SAE (FSAE), with a focus on Formula-type race vehicles: University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, Minnesota State University – Mankato, St. Cloud State University
  • Formula Hybrid, which is based on the Formula SAE with a new layer of technology: University of St. Thomas
  • Baja SAE, with a focus on the off-road vehicle: University of Wisconsin – Stout

More than 25,000 engineering students have tremendous benefits from their participation in this competition and graduated with SAE collegiate design experience.
